Candle Care

How to care for your candle

Burn your candle for 2-4 hours on the first burn, or until the wax has melted to the edge of the vessel. This will ensure an even melt pool of the wax and will avoid tunnelling. Candle wax has a memory, so if your candle has not burned to the edge of the vessel on the first burn, it will most likely form a tunnelling effect in the centre of the candle (a small amount of unmelted wax on the outer edges is fine as this will most likely catch up with future burns)

Avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. This will ensure that your candle does not get too hot, causing damage to the vessel or surface that the candle is placed.

Always place your candle on a coaster to ensure no damage to any surfaces.

Trim your wick before each lighting of your candle to 5mm. This avoids lots of sooting and ensures that the flame doesn't get too big.

Keep candle away from any draughts to ensure that the flame doesn't over flicker. This also avoids lots of sooting around the edge of the candle. (Sometimes slight sooting cannot be avoided due to airflow in the room)

Never leave a burning candle unattended, near draughts or anything that could catch alight.

Always keep an eye on children and pets around candles.

Do not pick up the candle vessel whilst it is burning or still hot.

Try to store candles at room temperature. Candle wax and fragrance oils are sensitive to changes in temperature.

Soy wax is prone to cracking, frosting and an uneven surface after cooling. This is a natural characteristic of plant wax and if anything, is proof that your candles are made from natural wax as opposed to paraffin wax. So embrace the lumps and bumps! They do not impact the performance of the candle or its scent in any way and is perfectly normal. Soy wax is excellent for candles as it holds fragrance well and is much better for the environment than paraffin.

When you have 5mm of wax left, it is time to say goodbye to your candle. This will prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface and candle container.
